- 6 cups sliced apples
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter (cubed)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel, core, and slice apples into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Spread the apples evenly in a greased baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture forms pea-sized crumbles.
- Mix in chopped nuts if using.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and apples are bubbling.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra crunch, mix in chopped pecans or walnuts into the topping. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce!
